Sentinel Q Snake Repeller
Troubleshooting and instuctions for use.
The solar snake repeller unit is designed to repel snakes, by emitting a pulse which snakes feel as a vibration transmitted through the ground. Snakes then perceive a danger zone causing them to evacuate the area, not so much a physical barrier, but rather creating an area where the snakes do not want to be.
The repeller transmits its signal in all directions approx 20m. (65ft), they can placed approx 40 m (130ft) apart to get optimum coverage, it is always recommended to use two or more units to get the best results. Place a unit close to retaining walls, rock gardens, old sheds etc. to drive snakes out from their hiding places and away. When first installing the units keep children and animals away from the area for the first hour in case any snakes are driven out of their hiding places. What they are supposed to do they should start and stop on an approx 2 minute cycle, they have to start up, - get the snakes attention, then stop, then start again, we have found with a continuos vibration it does not worry snakes but with the signal spacing it gets them uneasy so they just leave the area. They should flash the light and vibrate at the same time, - (only for a few seconds) vibration patterns are set to vary over a period - It's a bit hard sometimes to see the light in the bright sun but night dawn and dusk it catches your eye. Often many are very quiet when in operation when in the ground.
The Sentinel Q works with rechargeable batteries. The solar module runs the unit and charges the battery during the day, night-time operation is enabled by the batteries.
Although the units are weatherproof, it is recommended that you remove it under extreme weather conditions such as hail, flooding and snow. If the unit does become waterlogged and the unit ceases to work, take it out and leave to dry, normally when completely dry the unit will return to normal operation. Normally the only maintenance required is with a soft cloth, wipe the solar panel cover to remove any excess dirt and grime.
Please take care when removing the units from the ground, that you do not break them.
After some time the batteries may start to loose efficiency, these can be replaced by two AA size rechargeable NiMh
1.2V batteries are recommended. (800mah plus) Battery compartment is located in the underside of the head section. secured by two small phillips head screws.
While the Sentinel Q should reduce the number of snakes around your home when installed and working, you should always be vigilant, nothing can be 100% effective as unforseen circumstances may occur and this may result in the chance of an occasional snake not being immediately repelled, and although probably leaving the area there is no control over what direction any snakes will take to get away. Some snakes may initially retreat up off the ground /or on to concrete areas etc. until they decide where to go. Other external factors such as heavy equipment operating close by may temporarily influence the effectiveness of the units.
What they are supposed to do they should start and stop on an approx 2 minute cycle, they have to start up , - get the snakes attention, then stop, then start again, we have found with the the continous vibration it does not worry snakes too much but with the spacing between the signals it seems to have them uneasy so they just leave the area. So for a few seconds every two minutes is correct, having the gap between the signals is important, emitting too close together and the snakes may not retreat, a minimum gap of one minute up to three minutes is the optimum timing.
They should flash the light and vibrate at the same time. -It's a bit hard sometimes to see the light in the bright sun but night dawn and dusk it catches your eye.
If the red led light flashes when switched on then this indicates that the batteries are OK. Then if still no vibration in the stem.
It's suspect the spikes have not been pushed into he head section firmly enough, they can be pretty tight, try again to push in and give a twist to the spike as you do as this helps, they need to make a good contact. The twisting of the spike helps to seat the connections properly, if no vibrating when red light flashes try to push in more firmly. The contacts need to make a good firm connection.
If still no vibration then it's possible the motor in the spike section has been damaged.
If the red light does not flash when switched on its either a broken / damaged switch or the batteries may need to be changed.
Two AA 1.2v rechargeable Nimh 800mah ( plus) -1.5v can be used
